Carol Gluck gave a keynote address at the “Modern Japan in the Comparative Imagination” conference (held May 9-10 at Durham University). Later in May, she presented a paper at the “National Memory in the Time of Populism” conference at Washington University in St. Louis.





Adam Tooze was quoted in The New Yorker about the surge of European Green parties.

Alice Kessler-Harris was elected President of the Society of American Historians.





Karl Jacoby was a featured speaker at two events in France: a conference at Columbia’s Reid Hall in Paris on May 21 followed by a dialogue with Pekka Hämäläinen in Bordeaux on May 22.





Simon Schama’s article “Why not be Wordy?” was featured in The Financial Times.

Hunter Stires (CC ’19) was awarded 1st Prize in the U.S. Naval Institute’s 2018 General Prize Essay Contest. His winning entry is currently the lead feature article in Proceedings (USNI’s flagship magazine). An online companion piece also appears in Proceedings
