Dear all,
With apologies for the very short notice, Professor Christina Ponsa and I are happy to announce the first meeting of the revived Legal History Workshop at Columbia Law School. This Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 6PM, we host Professor Aziz Rana (Cornell Law). We will be discussing an excerpt from Aziz’s forthcoming book, The Rise of the Constitution, which dates the emergence of American “constitutionalism” to the country’s experiments with imperialism and industrialization at the turn of twentieth century. The pre-circulated material is attached to this email, and focuses specifically on class conflict and constitutionalism. After a short framing comment from Aziz and a brief response, the floor will be open for discussion. Light refreshments will be served, and we will take Aziz to dinner afterward. Please let me know if you are interested in attending dinner.
