Opening remarks will be made by Adam Tooze, Columbia University History Professor and Director of the European Institute.

Frans Timmermans will discuss ongoing challenges to freedom of expression in Europe and how to tackle them. This talk is particularly timely given moves against freedom of expression and the media in Hungary, Poland and Turkey, as well as worries about dis/misinformation campaigns throughout Europe.
As First Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans is responsible for Better Regulation, Inter-Institutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights.
