Event Details
On behalf of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, I would like to invite you and your colleagues from Columbia’s Department of History to join us for a discussion on Fear and Democracy: Reflections on Security and Freedom, which will be held on Monday, December 7 at 6:00 p.m. at The Italian Academy on your campus with a reception to follow.
This program brings together leading experts—including one of your colleagues Professor Katznelson—who will discuss, in light of increased national security threats, how societies can adequately protect themselves while still adhering to normal democratic procedures.
Samuel Issacharoff (New York University School of Law) and Ira Katznelson (Columbia University; Social Science Research Council) will lead this discussion.
All participants are asked to register online (https://www.amacad.org/content/members/cEventRegForm.aspx?id=20197) by Thursday, December 3. For questions, please contact the Academy at mevents@amacad.org.
We hope that you will be able to join us for this event.
Best,
Courtney
