2dec9:00 am- 6:30 pmCenter for American Studies: Democracy and Education- A Conference

Event Details

The conference takes the centennial of John Dewey’s classic work of that name as an opportunity to ask what democratic education means in the 21st century. I can’t imagine a more important question facing us as educators and citizens at this moment in our country’s history.

In addition to keynote lectures by Danielle Allen of Harvard and Daniel Porterfield, president of Franklin and Marshall College, there will be sessions addressing Dewey’s legacy for debates about K-12 education, initiatives like our own “Freedom and Citizenship” program that provide “great books” education to under-served communities, education for citizenship, and the public responsibilities of colleges and universities, among other topics.
