Destiny Spruill is a JD/PhD candidate at Columbia University, where she studies the history of First Amendment law and the “New Left” in the United States. Her research examines political repression and domestic counterinsurgency against radical movements, focusing on New York City and Chicago as critical centers of Black movement politics from the 1930s through the 1980s. She is interested in the broadening of First Amendment “rights” through legal challenges brought by Black activists and communists.

At Columbia Law School, Destiny is a staff editor for the Columbia Law Review, communications chair for Manhattan Court Watch, and a member of the Black Law Students Association.
