Powell, Jordan

Jordan Powell is a Provost Doctoral Fellow and PhD student in the History department at Columbia, studying the relationship between American hemispheric influence and English colonial administration in the British Caribbean after emancipation. Her broader interests include migration, race, and political theory. 

Jordan is also enthusiastic about digital humanities and cultivating a transnational historical and curatorial practice. She is happy to contribute to interdisciplinary projects and exhibitions outside of Columbia.

Before starting the PhD, Jordan completed a Master’s degree at University College London (Dean’s List) within the Institute of Advanced Studies, and a Bachelor’s degree in American studies from Yale University (Distinction in Major). Jordan is a native Brooklynite and enjoys patronizing secondhand bookshops for memoirs and historical fiction, biking, and playing soccer.
