Samuel Niu is a Ph.D. student in the History Department at Columbia University, where he studies the 19th century United States and Atlantic World. Specifically, Sam is interested in the intersection of emancipation, immigration, and labor history in the United States and British Caribbean. His research examines Chinese immigrant laborers on post-emancipation plantations in the United States South and the transnational networks that brought them there.
