Kimaiyo is a PhD student at Columbia University’s department of history specializing in the modern history of Africa. Her scholarly interest is in the history of athletics in Kenya with a special focus on the participation of women in sports. Kimaiyo holds a B.Ed (Arts) degree and a Master of Arts (history) degree from Kenyatta University, Kenya. Her master’s thesis was on the transformation of athletics in her home county of Elgeyo-Marakwet, in Kenya, during the British colonial rule. Besides academics, Kimaiyo enjoys hiking, travelling, and nature walks.
