Born and raised in rural Alabama, Madison Ogletree completed her undergraduate education in her home state at Auburn University. There, she received a B.A. in History and a B.A. in English-Literature (2019). During her time at Auburn, Madison also worked as a freelance photojournalist for the school’s student newspaper and AL.com, covering local and national news as well as sporting events.
In her research, Madison examines race and identity in the nineteenth-century American South with a specific focus on persons of mixed ancestry. Her work foregrounds the intersections of worlds Black, white, and Native American in the southern Black Belt region through a legal perspective. Madison intends to incorporate social history into her methodology to ascertain a greater sense of interracial life outside the courts.
