Coon, Ella

Field: United States; Advisor: Adam Tooze; Year 2019

Ella Coon is a PhD student in the field of US history. She works broadly at the intersection of twentieth-century international political economy, histories of science and technology, and legal history. More specifically, she is interested in the international ambitions of the US computer industry in the 1960s and 70s, and the role a budding regime of intellectual property rights played in then contemporary global production chains. Moreover, this project touches on her long-standing interest in questions of corporate sovereignty and the political economy of multinational firms. Coon holds a BA from Columbia University (2016) and an MA in Historical Studies from The New School for Social Research (2019). Before coming to Columbia’s doctoral program in history, she worked as an archivist for over three years.
