Jewish History

Courses: All first-year students in Jewish History are required to enroll in GR8910 Introduction to History and Historiography. Other courses are to be chosen in consultation with the student’s advisor.

Languages: All students are required to pass the Hebrew language examination. Students in American Jewish History are required to pass a minimum of one additional language examination; language to be determined with the advisor. All other students must pass a minimum of two additional language examinations, languages to be determined by the advisor.

Orals: Students are encouraged to take their Orals exams early in their third year. Students are required to take one subfield in Ancient Jewish History, one in Medieval and Early Modern Jewish History, and one in Modern or American Jewish History, plus a field in History outside of Jewish history, either geographical or thematic, to be agreed upon with their advisor.
