Brooks Swett is a doctoral student in nineteenth-century U.S. history, with a focus on Anglo-American exchanges and relations. Of particular interest to her are the international ramifications and context of U.S. Reconstruction.
Before beginning her doctoral studies, Brooks received a B.A. in history, summa cum laude, from Yale in 2009. As a Henry Fellow, Brooks completed a Master of Studies in U.S. History at Balliol College, University of Oxford, where she wrote about transatlantic interpretations of U.S. Reconstruction through British experiences of empire and reform. Before pursuing a Ph.D., Brooks taught elementary and middle school in London and Washington, D.C. for four years.
