Halimat Somotan is a doctoral candidate in the African History program. Her research focuses on the urban and political histories of Nigeria during the twentieth century. She has broader interests in the history of medicine and print culture. Her M.A thesis examines the marketing strategies of patent medicine manufacturers in Lagos newspapers during the 1920s. She received her B.A in History and Theatre Arts from Fairfield University in 2012.
