Deborah has a BA in History and Russian Studies from Brown University, an MA in Russian Studies from Harvard University, and a JD from Harvard Law School. After a successful career as a corporate attorney, she decided to switch gears and return to academia. She received her MA from Columbia in Medieval Studies in 2010 and began the PhD program in the same year. Her dissertation deals with the integration of the Cathar heretics of southern France in the thirteenth-century economy, examining their relationship to money, money-lending, and apostolic poverty.
Deborah co-coordinates the interdepartmental Medieval Latin Reading Group and the Graduate Medieval History Dissertation Workshop.
