Alana is a first-year PhD student in European and Russian intellectual history. She received her B.A. in Religion from Reed College in 2007, where she wrote an undergraduate thesis on the intellectual formation of Vladimir Solovyov, a Russian religious philosopher. Her work focuses on religion, philosophy, aesthetics, and politics, and at the moment she is particularly interested in how these areas conceive of the place of nature in determining the legitimacy of human action. Other interests include nationalism and ethnic identities, the ancient world, French and Russian poetry, and American evangelicalism.
